The Traveller's Last Journey DEDICATED TO SHAI MAROM Z"L

How to Explore this Collection

H

1. Using the Menu

The best way to explore the content of this repository is to use the menu system.

To browse ALL articles, essays and posts in this compilation, click on SHAI’S WRITING. This will open a screen displaying a list of excerpts. If you wish to read a full entry, click on the title. Alternatively, hold the cursor over the selected tab and a drop-down menu will appear allowing you to select articles based on their source. Once an article is open, you will be able to read the next or previous articles in the list by selecting from a pop-up bar at the bottom of the screen.

2. Gmail Drafts

Of particular note, the Gmail Drafts collection includes articles and essays which Shai wrote and submitted to himself, allowing continuous additions and changes to be made by simply pressing ‘reply’. Some of these ‘chains’ are rather long and presented an interesting editorial challenge.

To preserve the incremental nature of the manuscripts, I opted to retain the progressive elaboration by using a notation which clarifies where each piece of the chain begins and ends. Additionally, the notation indicates the dates on which each of these sections was written because some of these were compiled over a long period of time. Where such a chain exists, each of the sections is preceded by the following notation:

{Part X – dd/mm/yyyy}
where “Part X” denotes the position of this entry within the overall chain.

See for example the following: https://thetravellerslastjourney.com/shai/2017/06/02/shavuot/.

3. Browsing based on a Category

Blogs, like the one you are reading right now, utilise the concept of ‘Categories’ in order to group and classify posts. Every post in this collection has been assigned one or more categories.

A complete and ‘clickable’ list of all categories can be found at the bottom of this and every other page.

4. Searching for a keyword

The magnifying glass at the top right corner of each screen can be used to search for a word or a phrase. Alternatively, the SEARCH AND SORT sub-menu (under the HOME tab) offers another a way to sort and filter articles.

5. Footnotes

This compilation uses two sets of footnote notations. The first represents footnotes added to the content by Shai and the second represents footnotes added as part of the editing process, to elaborate, reference or explain terms and concepts. While Shai’s footnotes are presented by the use of Arabic Numerals[3], the Editor’s footnotes are denoted by Roman Numerals[IV].

6. Editorial Notes

Having reviewed his own material, Shai occasionally added ‘editorial notes’ to convey his thoughts on his own writing. These editorial notes, based on Shai’s own formatting style, are marked in red and appear in square brackets.

My own ‘Editorial notes’ were added as part of the collation and editing process to illuminate links and connections and to provide a deeper interpretation of complex articles. These appear in grey boxes.

7. Help

This icon marks a section (or a complete article) I require help to interpret the content and/or its intent. If you or someone you know can help, please get in touch using the ‘comment’ option (it will pop-up as you scroll down). Your help will be greatly appreciated. A complete list of all the posts where I reuire help can be found under the menu item ‘Help Needed’, under the tab called ‘Meta Data Categories’.
