Now that I have a queue of posts scheduled I thought I could afford to start something new: a focus on a particular author. I decided to do Peter David. A caveat should be noted right here at the start: this will not cover David’s entire Star Trek bibliography, rather it will (somewhat unintentionally) cover only his works through the 1990s.
Books were chosen by the following criteria: (1) I had not already covered them on this site; (2) they are based on one of the television series (hence I am not covering any of his many novels set in the New Frontier series); (3) he must be the sole author. I wanted five books, and I wanted to represent at least each series once. I ended up choosing:
– The Siege – which is only single-author DS9 novel (at this time)
– The Rift – which is one of two single-author TOS novels. This won over the other (namely The Captain’s Daughter) because, quite frankly, the blurb sounded better.
– Imzadi and Imzadi II – I was originally intending to dismiss the sequel, but it was written in 1999 and so would give my “marathon” a bit more breadth. Double or Nothing by David was also published in 1999, but was excluded for being book five of a series.
– Q-Squared – this was chosen because it seemed right to have at least one of the Q novels (the other being Q-in-Law), and being published in 1994, it somewhat helped balance the distribution of years
Reviews will be posted in chronological order of publishing, starting with The Rift. A recap will be posted after the last review.
