See also the first footnote below<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>. It was written for two main reasons: (1) As an index that can be referred to when looking for something to read about Ancient Greek philosophy; (2) as an index that can be referred to when trying to decide what has and hasn&#8217;t been written and what could benefit from a new writeup.<\/small><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What we call &#8220;Ancient Greek Philosophy&#8221; roughly covers everything from the first recorded Greek philosopher (Thales) until the Greek states were incorporated into the Roman Empire. This covers a period from the end of the 7th century\u00a0<a class=\"populated\" title=\"BCE\" href=\"https:\/\/everything2.com\/title\/BCE\">BCE<\/a>\u00a0(which is part of the period called\u00a0<a class=\"populated\" title=\"Archaic Greece\" href=\"https:\/\/everything2.com\/title\/Archaic+Greece\">Archaic Greece<\/a>) through\u00a0<a class=\"populated\" title=\"Classical Greece\" href=\"https:\/\/everything2.com\/title\/Classical+Greece\">Classical Greece<\/a>\u00a0when many of the big-name philosophers flourished, and into the period of\u00a0<a class=\"populated\" title=\"Hellenistic Greece\" href=\"https:\/\/everything2.com\/title\/Hellenistic+Greece\">Hellenistic Greece<\/a>\u00a0which ends with much of the Greek lands being annexed by Rome in 146 BCE. These three periods are used below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><small>Because this is an index to (vaguely speaking) valuable nodes<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0on Ancient Greek philosophy, I have eschewed any other links below.
