At this point, the lineup was Hetfield, Ulrich, Burton, and Hammet. The last famously replaced Mustaine, who was too much of an asshole for the band who had to be <em>talked down<\/em> to titling their debut KEM. Their original title would have been Metal Up Your Ass with complementary album art showing a hand stabbing with a dagger out of a toilet bowl. The story goes that when he heard that the label wanted the title changed, Burton said, \u201cJust fucking KEM.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A stated influence on early Metallica were bands like Iron Maiden, which forms an interesting comparison as another great band that peaked in the 1980&#8217;s (Number of the Beast was 1982).<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Hit the lights<\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The Four Horsemen <\/em>&#8211; <em>Mechanix <\/em>with new lyrics<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Motorbreath <\/em>&#8211; common metal theme in punk<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Jump in the Fire<\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Anasthesia <\/em>&#8211; bass solo<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Whilpash <\/em>\u00a0&#8211; fucking heavy metal awesomeness<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Phantom Lord<\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>No Remorse<\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Seek and Destroy<\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Metal Militia<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kill Em All was Metallica\u2019s first studio album in 1983.
